“I cannot tell you more about this abyss yet, because if I revealed the fullness of my love for you, you would find yourselves before the greatest of all mysteries.” (Message from God the Father to Sister Eugenia Ravasio)
The Lord wants to immerse us in the infinite depth of his love as much as we can assimilate it in our present human condition. St. Teresa of Ávila expressed it like this: “Lord, stop now; I can’t take any more.” St. Francis of Assisi was granted the privilege of hearing heavenly music and nearly fainted. “One more note and I will die.” Both saints expressed the same reality. We can only assimilate divine love to a certain extent; otherwise, it would consume us from within, so to speak, and we would find ourselves face to face with God Himself. But that is only possible in eternity.
This apparent limitation should motivate us to move toward eternal life and the full encounter with God, our Father, rather than sadden us. Sometimes it is said, “The best is yet to come!” In this context, that saying is accurate. If we allow ourselves to be prepared by the Lord for the encounter with the fullness of his love, then there will be no more suffering or unfulfilled desires; nothing will prevent us from standing before the greatest of all mysteries.
In His wisdom, our Father guides us in this way. He awakens and increases love within us according to our willingness to cooperate with him and allow ourselves to be purified of anything hindering its growth. Sometimes we can cooperate actively, and at other times we must simply surrender to the purification processes the Lord allows to come upon us. The goal is always the same: love—love that called us into existence, that guides our lives, that redeems us from death and perdition; love that is revealed in all its fullness in the glory of heaven. Even here on earth, it can become so intense that we desire nothing more than to be with him and to fulfill his precepts. At the same time, we know this longing will only be fully satisfied when we are with Him forever in eternity.
