The Father loves simplicity. In the Gospel we hear how Jesus rejoices in this: “I bless you, Father, Lord of heaven and of earth, for hiding these things from the learned and the clever and revealing them to little children. Yes, Father, for that is what it has pleased you to do” (Lk 10:21).
Simplicity does not mean lack of intelligence; it means simplicity of heart.
Let us look at how unsurpassably simple the message of the gospel is at its core. Everyone can understand it and God Himself transmits it to us in simplicity. In order to make Himself understood, He adapts Himself to our human circumstances. In the Message to Mother Eugenia, the Father tells us:
“I know how to adapt Myself to your condition. I make Myself little with the little ones, I make Myself an adult with adults, and the same with the elderly, so that all may comprehend what I wish to tell them for their sanctification and My glory. Do you not have the proof of what I am saying in My Son, Who made Himself small and weak like you?”
God has chosen the way of simplicity to reach all men. The truth is simple! It does not dwell in complex and subtle constructs of thought. We do not have to demonstrate it, but simply profess it and live it. Truth speaks and convinces by itself, and seeks only simple hearts, in which it can make its abode. Truth makes man ever simpler, because he can live from this all-ordering source. Thus it permeates life with its own clarity.
“Everything is easy when you love God”, said the venerable Anne de Guigné. It is as simple as that!
