“You are my child. Ask me with confidence and share that which is in your heart” (Inner Word).
Without a doubt, our Father knows what is in our hearts, even if it is only timidly manifested. He also knows all our worries: ‘Thou discernest my thoughts from afar (…) Even before a word is on my tongue, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether. ’ (Ps 138:2,4).
However, our Father wants us to express this to Him, because in this way our heart is enlarged and our confidence grows. Let us think what it feels like when someone expresses their affection or gratitude to us. It is as if the words spoken embody reality.
We can speak to the Lord with complete freedom. He Himself invites us to do so, just as a child would with his father. How do we react when a child asks us questions that spring from a pure heart? Would we not try to answer them, however impossible they may seem, out of love and respect for that child?
It is the same with our Father. He wants us to approach Him in this attitude, and He will take care to communicate with us in such a way that we can understand Him.
We have so many things to say to our Father, and He is eager to hear them, even if they spring from our hearts like a sigh of longing for Him. Certainly, we will continue to carry many things in the secret of our hearts, but we must not neglect our Father’s invitation to tell them to Him openly.
