SEND ME

286th Meditation

“Let me always find you on watch, so that I may count on you at all times” (Inner Word).

What an extensive invitation from our Father! Not only does He constantly surround us with His fatherly love and thus give us an eternal home, but He also wants to count on us. The friendship He offers us should not be one-sided, so that it is not only we who can entrust our Father with what is most intimate to us, but that He can also count on us and include us in His plans of salvation.

The words we heard at the beginning of this meditation bring to mind this passage from the Prophet Isaiah: “I heard the voice of the Lord saying: ‘Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I, send me'” (Is 6:8).

If we live in a state of grace, once our faults have been forgiven by our Lord Jesus Christ, then our soul has the general predisposition to welcome the Lord’s instructions. If He prepared the Prophet Isaiah, by touching his mouth and removing his guilt (v. 7), much more so us, by washing our guilt in the blood of the Lamb.

What a joy it is for the Father to find us always willing and that our hearts are always seeking Him and in dialogue with Him! Then we do not lose ourselves in the things of this world; rather, with our eyes fixed on Him, we fulfil the task He has entrusted to us. This generates in us an attitude of vigilance in the presence of the Father, not only occasionally, at certain times, when we feel His grace in a special way; but, thanks to the gift of counsel, it becomes a constant attitude in order to understand and follow His indications.

This is what our Father wants from us, to be able to call us always, to count on us at all times, to involve us in the saving work of the Holy Trinity.

What an honour it would be if the Lord could trust us, if He could send us to all that His love has planned! May the spirit of fortitude work in us in such a way that we never cease to serve Him and listen to Him with the ear of disciples (cf. Is 50:4). Then our Father will be able to send us, and He Himself will be with us to carry out every work He entrusts to us.
