Beloved Father, in today’s reading You exhort us, through Your apostle, to abstain from all impurity. It is terrible to see how this vice darkens a person’s life and prevents them from perceiving the resplendent light that emanates from the purity of the holy angels, from the many virgins who were willing to give their lives to preserve it, and from the radiant splendor of the most pure Virgin. Moreover, all this is eclipsed when the spiritual impurity of false doctrines penetrates our Church, perhaps even accompanied by other forms of impurity.
Whatever the case may be, help us, beloved Father, to obtain a pure heart! If we are focused on You, we will be very cautious in the face of all temptations to impurity, whether physical or spiritual. The former is easier to detect, but spiritual impurity is more difficult to identify, especially when it has penetrated the Church itself.
What can help us? Great vigilance! We must perceive the first signs of bodily impurity, immediately seek Your help, protect our inner temple from the intrusion of impure images, avoid many other things that could weaken us, and always be ready for spiritual combat.
As for the spiritual impurity of false doctrines, we must cling to the faith as You entrusted it to the Church long ago. Many things have begun to falter, and we can reject spiritual impurities only if we anchor ourselves firmly in Your Word and in the unaltered doctrine of the Church.
It is certainly a battle, but we do not fight it alone. You are the One who guides us and lifts us up when we suffer defeat. Moreover, we fight not only to defend ourselves, but also for all our brothers and sisters who have been led astray by impurity. Let us be a light for them!
