PROOFS OF OUR LOVE

“The time to prove our love is short, and we only have one life” (St. Maximilian Kolbe).

You are right, dear Maximilian Kolbe. Time is short and we are often lazy and slow to do good. This is because we do not yet love our Heavenly Father enough, and we fail to understand the incredible opportunity we have to be a light in the midst of darkness, thus honoring God and serving mankind. Indeed, every day is a gift to prove our love.

As St. Adalbert said: “He who helps his neighbor in his suffering, whether spiritual or material, has done more than he who has built a basilica at every landmark from Cologne to Rome.”

We only need to be attentive. Our Father will give us countless opportunities to show Him our love, and in eternity, we will be infinitely grateful for each one we took advantage of.

However, the proofs of our love are not limited to visible acts. As St. Adalbert expressed in another phrase, “Constantly offering God the repentance of your soul pleases Him more than running from one end of the world to the other.”

Or as Jesus said to St. Gertrude: “My daughter, there is nothing with which you can please me so much as if you bear with patience the trials that come to you.”

Thus, the opportunities to demonstrate our love are countless. Indeed, we only live once, and each day is unique. After waking up, thanking the Father for a new day and shaking off our tiredness and laziness, we can turn to the Holy Spirit and ask Him to help us take advantage of every opportunity to show our love to our dear Father. Without a doubt, our divine Friend will not only open our eyes to identify such occasions, but will also remind us of our purpose when we are in danger of missing them.
