“For he will give his angels charge of you to guard you in all your ways” (Ps 91:11).
Our Father’s providence knows no bounds, and He does not leave us alone to face the dangers we encounter on life’s journey. Instead, He gives us the kindest friends imaginable as companions, who are happy to help their brothers and sisters on Earth. These are the holy angels who have been sent to us as protectors and teachers. Through them, God shows us His love and care. Could He have chosen better companions for us than those who constantly see His face and serve Him with ardent love? No, otherwise He would have done so.
The light that the angels communicate to us is God’s light, and the protection they offer us is His care for us. After all, it was He who entrusted them with this task.
And they? They willingly obey the Heavenly Father because nothing pleases them more than carrying out His orders and adoring Him. What joy this brings them!
As St. Bernard says, angels are faithful, wise, and powerful. This same saint describes what their presence in our lives means in a few words: “They are there, beside us and for us.” In them we find not only blessed spirits who do God’s will and then go on their way, but who remain with us until we reach our goal.
And when we have reached it? They will continue to live in loving communion with us in eternity! They will thank the Lord, and the Lord will thank them, for guiding us to our destination, where we will worship Him together forever and rejoice.
Thus, we see the uniqueness of the gift our Father has given us. Our guardian angel is not only a friend who accompanies us through the dangers of our earthly life, but is above all concerned with our eternal life, so that we do not lose God’s infinite gift. Thanks to him, and above all, thanks to our Father, who placed him at our side!
