“When you sincerely confess your mistakes, omissions, and shortcomings, you make Me happy as if you had entrusted Me with a treasure. As soon as your soul opens up, My Spirit takes possession of it unobtrusively but victoriously. What could I not repair if I am left to act? Then I am pleased to adorn your soul according to My taste.” (Words of Jesus to the mystic Louisa Jaques)
What a gift the Lord offers us in the sacrament of confession! How ready He is to lift up the soul anew! But not only that. In today’s passage, He speaks of how He can make reparation for everything. Not only does He show us our sins to forgive us after sincere repentance and confession, but He is also able to make reparation for our faults. This certainty brings great comfort, especially to those who have committed grave sins and feel they will always be weighed down by them, causing them to lose hope.
And reparation is not yet all the proof of the Lord’s love. He begins to adorn the soul and to clothe it with His beauty. He has been waiting for this moment to fully communicate with the soul once the obstacles have been removed. For now, His garment of grace shines all the more brightly.
Not even all eternity would suffice to praise the love of our Father sufficiently. No one has reason to give up and end their life, even if they have gone off the rails. With a word of repentance and a sincere invocation to the Father, what the Lord assured St. Matilda will happen:
“I tell you that there is no sinner so bad that, if he is truly converted, I will not at that very moment forgive him all his faults and incline My heart over him with as much grace and gentleness as if he had never failed.”
