“MY SON ALWAYS HELD ME CLOSE”

“Look at my Son: did he not always hold me close? The same must happen to you” (Inner Word).

We must imitate Our Lord Jesus Christ in everything, and thus we will be introduced into the Heart of our Heavenly Father. If we try to do this day after day and return to Jesus as soon as possible if we have lost our way, then it will become increasingly natural for us to keep our eyes fixed on our Heavenly Father. We know that Jesus did nothing without first raising His gaze to the Heavenly Father in order to act in full conformity with Him. Saint Joan of Arc expressed it this way: ‘All my words and actions are in God’s hands; in all things I hope in Him.’

What Our Lord did by virtue of His divine nature, we can do by virtue of grace. It is grace that enables us to centre our whole life on our Heavenly Father, as long as we remain in it. This happens above all when we turn our hearts towards Him. The more intensely we long for Him, seek Him and remain in inner union with Him, the more our Father can love through our hearts, both ourselves and other people.

We are invited to bring before Him everything that is still dark in us, everything that is not permeated by love in its broadest sense. Since everything that is hostile to God cannot resist or penetrate His heart, it will be touched by His light if we present it to Him as burdens that weigh us down. Then the darkness in our hearts begins to dissipate. The more subtly we perceive our shadows and bad attitudes and bring them before the Lord, the more our hearts will be purified under the influence of divine love. This progressive purification of the heart will make us increasingly aware of God, we will begin to see Him in love, and thus the words of Jesus will begin to be fulfilled: “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God” (Mt 5:8).
