“My plans are fulfilled, opportunely or inopportunely, even through missteps and darkness. No one can stop them; nothing can obscure God’s path” (Inner Word).
Our Father uses all circumstances to carry out His plan of salvation. Due to the resistance of the devil and the foolishness and weakness of man, it is true that God’s will often cannot be fulfilled directly according to His original intention. However, in His providence, our Father knows how to take this into consideration. Without abandoning his goal or changing it in principle, He pursues it through missteps and darkness.
This is why we must trust in the Lord in all situations, not just when we can clearly and directly recognise how His will is being fulfilled. However, we must not be deceived into believing that straying and darkness are willed by God, since they always cause suffering. God does not want to make people suffer. In the Person of His Son, He voluntarily took on suffering without any guilt. Therefore, it can never be said that it is lawful to do evil so that good may come of it (Rom 3:8).
It is part of God’s insurmountable wisdom that our Father tries everything to save His own. We must firmly believe this, even when everything seems to contradict this certainty. The only insurmountable obstacle occurs when the will and heart of man deliberately reject God’s love, with full knowledge of the truth. May this never happen!
Unlimited trust in the love and wisdom of our Father will sustain and guide us through snares of life.
