“I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful” (Psalm 139:14).
Have we ever said this to our heavenly Father? Have we ever tried to look at ourselves as God looks at us and become aware of the love with which He has called us into existence? Have we thanked Him with all our hearts?
Some of us may find it difficult to see ourselves this way, especially when we experience our own shadows and sins with pain.
But despite all this, isn’t what the psalmist says true? Isn’t it an inspired word that has been recorded in Sacred Scripture along with so many other holy words? Hasn’t it been spoken—or even sung—in the Holy Spirit?
Yes, it is! Let us simply try to repeat these words and address them to our heavenly Father: “I praise you, for I am wonderfully made.”
And what will His answer be? He will probably say to us: “Now you have understood more deeply. You are a work of art of My love! I could not have created you more beautiful. And even if your life has been darkened by sin, I still see you this way. Through My gaze and all My love, I want to restore to you the ‘beauty of the first day,’ when I created you in My image. If you thank Me, you will be surprised and discover more and more what My love has planned for you.”
This realization can heal our wounds and dispel our shadows. We all have value before God—everyone without exception! If until now a “no” has weighed on our lives, it will become a “yes.” Our Father has formed us wonderfully, and by thanking Him for this, we awaken to the deepest truth, which begins to permeate our lives. My life is His gift!
This is how our Father is, and this is how He will always be.
