I want to tell you about my divine Friend, because He is so good to me that I really have to share about Him with you. It is not that I think that you do not know Him and that He is exclusively my Friend – of course not! But if I tell you about Him, perhaps you will know Him a little better. Indeed, the more we hear about Him and the more time we spend with Him, the better we will know Him.
We will never tire of being with Him and it will always be a joy to meet Him.
This my divine friend is very strong, but also reserved. He does not impose Himself, but He is always ready if we only call upon Him and ask Him to come. He does not hesitate.
He loves to be alone with a soul, to cultivate love in silence and secrecy; but He also loves the fearless witness of truth, which must never be muted.
So where does this Friend come from?
Actually, He has always been there. In the beginning, he was hovering over the face of the waters and transformed chaos into order (Gen 1:2).
He is a divine Friend; therefore, he has no beginning and no end. And because He is God, He knows me better than I know myself. Nothing is hidden from Him, and there is no need to hide anything from Him either. He loves me!
Since I am not afraid of my Friend, I open the doors for Him to enter the “house of my soul”. I invite Him to stay forever, because I do not want Him ever to leave me, nor do I want to give Him a reason to leave the “house of my soul” again.
If the lie were to settle in my house, my divine Friend would suffer greatly and would withdraw. He would still love me, but He would no longer be able to remain with me. He could not bear to see my soul grow dark and fall prey to darkness. He will do everything to prevent this from happening!
It is He, my divine Friend, who cries out in my heart: “Abba, beloved Father” (cf. Gal 4:6). It is He who reminds me of all that the Redeemer of mankind said and did (cf. Jn 14:26). He wants to preserve me from everything that could separate me from His love. That is why He jealously watches over me, His dear Friend, so that I do not fall under the influence of those who reject His friendship.
My Friend does not rest day or night. He wants to win more friends, and these will then also become my friends.
He loves to see people seeking the truth and encourages them in their search, for He knows well that “the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened” (Mt 7:8). Therefore, in secret, He offers His help to every person, He supports them and moves every soul to find the One who created them and to turn to the “Father of lights” (Jas 1:17).
What unspeakable joy fills my divine Friend when He finds a soul whom He can adorn with His gifts! Moreover, it is not enough for Him to give something, but He wants to give Himself and unify Himself with the soul.
My divine Friend wants the soul to become like Himself through His love.
Such is He, my divine Friend!
Imagine this: He wants to fill me, a poor man, limited and weak, with His divine splendour. It is hard to believe. But I assure you: it is really so! The generosity of my divine Friend is unsurpassed, and if I do not hinder Him, He makes my soul His temple and floods my house with His splendour.
