LET ME BE YOUR STRENGTH

“Let me be your strength” (Inner Word).

It is true that our human weakness leads us again and again into situations that we can hardly—or not at all—overcome. This applies to the outer life as well as to the inner life, which can also bring us stages of darkness that are part of the process of purification of the soul. In such situations, we often do not know what to do, and we are confronted with our smallness and shortcomings. It is then that we must call upon the Lord, and He will answer us: “Let me be your strength.”

Even when we don’t feel our Father’s presence and cling to Him only through faith, He never abandons us!

What we sometimes don’t understand until later is how our Father uses these situations for our own good. Indeed, spiritual growth and maturation consist of abandoning ourselves to the Lord in times of darkness, weakness, hostility, and persecution. Let us call upon the Lord, and He will answer us: “Let me be your strength.”

Though it may seem like a “leap into nothingness,” it is the most realistic step we can take. God’s strength and wisdom will show us a way out of this situation and will use it for our good. Let us call upon the Lord, and He will answer us: “Let me be your strength.”

Let us remember the Apostle Paul, who exclaimed, “When I am weak, then I am strong” (2 Cor 12:10). What does this mean if not “Let me be your strength”?

Let us think, for example, of the temptations that the devil places before us: how can we escape them or resist them? Let us call upon the Lord and He will answer us: “Let me be your strength.”
