When His hour had come, Jesus turns to the Father and commends His own to Him and assures Him: “[They] have indeed accepted it and know for certain that I came from you, and have believed that it was you who sent me” (Jn 17:8b).
To know Jesus means to understand more deeply that He came forth from the Father to make Him known to us. It is of incommensurable importance that the Jews, to whom Jesus was sent in the first place (cf. Mt 15:24), know that their Messiah and the Messiah of all humanity is the Son of the only God; the same God who had chosen them to be his People (cf. Jer 30:22).
In the Incarnation of Jesus and in His coming into the world, the Heavenly Father manifests Himself to them in an exceptional way. Jesus is the living testimony of our Father’s goodness. His every step, His every word, His every deed testifies to the One who sent Him, and His testimony is true!
“God so loved the world that he gave his only Son” (Jn 3:16).
Blessed are those who are able to understand this and are convinced that the heavenly Father can accomplish no greater work of love than to meet us in His Son.
Blessed are those who, in the light of the Holy Spirit, penetrate the mystery of love between the Father and the Son.
Blessed are those to whom the Word of God is revealed and who day by day find in it nourishment for their soul.
Blessed are those in whom the Word of God finds a place, so that it can permeate their heart.
Blessed are those who have found true nourishment in the eternal pastures of God and share it with their brothers and sisters.
Blessed are those who no longer seek anything other than the food of Jesus:
“My food is to do the will of the one who sent me, and to complete his work.” (Jn 4:34)
“Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe” (Jn 20:29b).
