IT IS I

“It is I who forgives, it is I who calls, it is I who perfects” (Inner Word).

On our journey of following Christ, we must never forget that it was not we who chose Him, but He who called us (cf. Jn 15:16). This applies not only to priestly and religious vocations, but to each person individually, as echoed in the Lord’s wonderful declaration through the prophet Isaiah: “I have called you by name, you are mine” (Is 43:1).

We live in our Father’s grace at every moment: day after day, hour after hour… He also makes this known to us in the Message to Mother Eugenia: without Him, we could not even exist, much less lead a life that is pleasing to God.

This certainty sinks deep into our hearts when we allow it to enter. Then our hearts exclaim with gratitude: “Yes, and He has done everything well!”

Our hearts will long to know more deeply this Lord who fills them so much with His love: “Who are You, whom my soul loves? Who are You, that You forgive me everything when I come to You? Who are You, who calls me? Who are You, who makes everything perfect? Father, I want to know You better!”

Perhaps He would answer us: “Come to Me with the trust of a child. Talk to Me and learn to see with My eyes, to hear with My ears, to love with My heart.”

“But how?”

“Come and throw yourself into the ocean of My love; then you will know Me better. I Myself am that ocean! Look at My Son! Through Him, I Myself came among you. He became man so that you could see Me, because My beloved Son said, ‘He who has seen me has seen the Father’ (Jn 14:9). Do you see, My child, that I have never abandoned you and have always called you? I was the gentle voice in your heart urging you to do good and warning you when you took the wrong path. But you know what? We can continue talking tomorrow. Until then, I will think of you and you of Me.”
