216th Meditation
“If the saints in heaven could return once more to earth, they would strive tirelessly, inflamed with love, to spread the faith throughout the world, with the intention of making known to the whole world the infinite love of God for souls. For the saints know far better than anyone on earth how much the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit deserve to be known. They are enraptured when they see with what glory even the smallest act done to spread the faith is rewarded in heaven” (St. Vincent Pallotti).
As we listen to these glorious words of St. Vincent, may the Father inflame our hearts with the fire of the saints! Let us listen attentively to what is said here! Indeed, these words can awaken us from all inertia and indifference, so that we may proclaim in every possible way the love of the Heavenly Father to men. Could anything be more important to us?
Let us ask those of our brothers in faith, who already live in the beatific vision of God, what we can do so that men may know the love of the Father. They will answer us!
In fact, St. Vincent Pallotti has already given us a great answer, giving us to understand that every little act counts: every prayer, every testimony, every work of charity, every step on the path of holiness, every small sacrifice…
Already in the time of his earthly life, St. Vincent Pallotti was a burning torch. Moved by the love of God, he wanted to invite everyone to join him in the great work of the universal mission. He is therefore part of that “retinue of the Lamb” (Rev 14:1-5), to whom we can turn to inflame in us the zeal for the proclamation of the holy faith. Could there be anything more important for the Heavenly Father?
Surely this is exactly what God wants from us: that each one of us takes the place assigned to him by the Lord and co-operates in the way God wants to do it through him. We must ask our Father to show us what our specific task is and to kindle in us the fire of His love of which He spoke in the Message to Mother Eugenia:
“I Myself am coming to bring the flame of the law of love so that, by this means, the enormous layer of ice that surrounds mankind can be melted and destroyed.”
There is no time to lose! Precisely when the world grows darker and darker, the Lord wants to find His own awake and at work in His vineyard. Whether He arrives at such and such an hour, may He find us awake (cf. Lk 12:37-40).
