“If a man walks in my statutes, and is careful to observe my ordinances—he is righteous, he shall surely live, says the Lord God.” (Ezekiel 18:9)
Dear Father, we like to speak of Your love and goodness, of Your patience and mercy. Indeed, we live by them. Who could truly live and walk their path to the end if You did not carry them and lift them up again and again in their many weaknesses and falls?
But we must not overlook the responsibility that comes with the knowledge of true faith. You tell us: “Every one to whom much is given, of him will much be required; and of him to whom men commit much they will demand the more.” (Luke 12:48)
This, dear Father, can frighten us in a salutary way, for much has been given to us. So much has been entrusted to our Church, for she is not only to be a teacher of the nations, but also to give people everything they need to accompany them maternally into eternity.
This also applies to each individual, according to the place You have assigned to him. Here the above words come to our aid, reminding us that we should act according to the truth. If we do so, we will live, and we will also give other people a testimony of life.
This responsibility can lift us up every day and awaken us from all sluggishness. It makes us attentive to the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and we become conscious co-workers in the kingdom of love that You want to establish on earth.
That, dear Father, is the most beautiful thing You can entrust to us. Thus, love and life in truth become the measure of whether we live up to the responsibility that arises from true faith.
