Implore the love of God

“O Lord! If only I could trace You in my heart, engrave You with golden letters in the most intimate part of my heart and soul, so that You could never be erased” (Blessed Henry Suso)

How could our Father ignore such an ardent request, born from the depths of a human heart? How could He deny him this desire? It is impossible, because such profound and holy words can only come from the Holy Spirit who dwells in the heart. Once he has uttered them, the Father will hasten to fulfill his desire.

Blessed Henry Suso burned in the fire of the Holy Spirit all his life and was consumed by love for God. Now he is there forever, where his great desire has been fully fulfilled.

If only our hearts, which often remain cold and dull, could burn like that! Perhaps it is still attached to various passing things, to our own thoughts and ideas, to which we tend to attach too much importance. All this is an obstacle for the Holy Spirit to penetrate into the deepest layers of our heart, where the great longing for union with God is born.

But even if this were the case, we can at least implore with the “tip of our will” that the fire of love for our Father be kindled in us. He will consider this request as a fact.

We can always go to our Father and declare our love to Him. He will be glad to hear it, even if we ourselves feel a little strange because our feelings remain rather indifferent. After all, we want to love God. And if we do not love Him as we should, we can even ask for that love.

Our Father is so infinitely generous that even the smallest and most sincere attempt to love Him touches His Fatherly Heart. To this attempt He responds with the fullness of His love, and so it is engraved in golden letters in the most intimate part of our heart.
