“Do not look so much at your weaknesses and limitations, but at me who has called you and holds on to you, come what may.” (Inner word)
On the way of discipleship, we can easily be tempted to focus too much on our weaknesses. That would be the other extreme, as opposed to not noticing them at all or only noticing them in other people.
We should be aware of our weaknesses, but not let them shake us too much. Instead, we should look to our Father. The same applies in our dealings with other people. We should not be too surprised by their weaknesses, but neither should we treat them harshly. Actually, we only need to look at how our Father treats us. He is our best teacher, and the above words give us the right guidance.
It is our Father who has called us to follow Him, and He is not mistaken! God holds fast to us, even when we falter or are overwhelmed by our weaknesses. Therefore, it is important to lift our gaze to Him and not allow ourselves to be dragged down by our weaknesses. We know this from confession. When we confess our sins, receive forgiveness and perhaps a word of encouragement, we can pick ourselves up again and move on. It is the same with the weaknesses we encounter on our path. Let us lift our gaze to God, enter into an inner dialogue with Him and move forward strengthened by Him!
If we listen carefully to the word, we hear an immensely valuable assurance from our Father: Come what may, it says, the Father will hold fast to us. In this way, He gives us the security of love, and we can continue on our way with confidence. The Father remains faithful to us!
