HUMILITY IS THE TRUTH

“Humility is the truth; it puts us back in our true place, because, in reality, what are we before God?” (Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini).

Humility is truth and, therefore, awakens us to a real vision of our life. How absurd pride is, which clouds our vision and, over time, blinds us! Just think of the fallen angel, who became intoxicated with his own beauty and, in his delirium, rebelled against our Heavenly Father.

What are we really before God? First of all, we are creatures who can do nothing on our own. That is the simple and joyful truth that accompanies us throughout our lives. Our Father has endowed these creatures, called into existence by love, with so many wonderful gifts and has raised them to the status of beloved children.

Why should we forget this instead of lovingly preserving it in our memory? Isn’t it strange that we boast of being especially intelligent, beautiful, or talented and forget where all these gifts come from? Isn’t it foolish to want to derive our value from them? Isn’t it shameful to present ourselves this way to others?

How simple and sincere humility is, on the other hand. That is precisely why it is so beautiful.

Our Father has given us everything we have, and He Himself enables us to accomplish all that corresponds to His wonderful gifts. Praising and thanking Him for this is the joyful normality of our existence. It opens our eyes to see the glory, goodness, and infinity of God. Pride, on the other hand, closes our eyes and fixes them solely on our limited existence, striving to magnify it before ourselves and others.

If we live according to the truth of our existence, our life will be imbued with sincerity and will bear witness to the One who created, redeemed, and will sanctify it.
