‘Hallowed be thy name’ (Mt 6:9).
The Name of our Father must be hallowed by people on earth, as it undoubtedly is in heaven, where angels and saints worship our Father with reverence and love, as described in the Book of Revelation: And all the angels stood round the throne and round the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying, “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God for ever and ever! Amen” (Rev 7:11-12).
In this way, we human beings live up to the vocation that God has entrusted to us: “We who first hoped in Christ have been destined and appointed to live for the praise of his glory” (Eph 1:12).
Our Father wants to be glorified in us by revealing His love and goodness to people through us. No one has glorified God like His beloved Son. But in imitation of Him, we too are destined to make known to the whole world the glory of our Father.
Is this already happening? In the Father’s message we encounter this question which He Himself asks: ‘Is My Name being blessed?’
If we take into account the objective reality that God is the Father of all human beings, I think we must honestly answer that, unfortunately, His Name is not yet being blessed as it should be. How many people do not even know Him and therefore cannot hallow Him! How many people consider God irrelevant and are indifferent to Him! How many have forgotten that there is a Father who is to be hallowed by our lives and whose presence lifts up and saves people!
If we want to serve our Father, what can we do? We must live our lives in such a way that He is glorified in them and invite others to do the same by following Christ. In this way His Name will be hallowed and our lives will find their deepest meaning.
