323rd Meditation
“In your wisdom you have fitted human to (…) govern the world in holiness and saving justice and in honesty of soul to dispense fair judgement” (Wis 9:2a,3).
The Father not only entrusted to our care the irrational Creation, but also the world, which is to be shaped by humankind. If with regard to our responsibility towards creation the Father emphasised that we should treat it with wisdom, for the administration of the world He mentions holiness and saving justice as criteria. Those qualities which our Father possesses in fullness – holiness and justice – and which we can receive from Him, He wants to see reflected in us when we assume responsibility in the human world.
Even more than the wise management of Creation, it is necessary to shape the human world, because we are dealing here with beings created directly in the image of God. The human world is not simply subject to natural laws, but much more to the human will and its spiritual faculties.
When we relate to a human being, we usually have a very sensitive being in front of us. Like us, this person is oriented towards love and truth. Therefore, any arbitrariness over a person has far more serious consequences than arbitrariness over the irrational Creation.
The holiness that makes us capable of administering the world of mankind is linked to love for those who are called to live as children of our Father. They deserve to be treated in the same way as our Father treats us, which demands of us the holiness that comes from our Father. Justice is related to truth, which enables us to judge the given situation in the light of God and with rightness of spirit.
“Saving Justice and Fair Judgement are the foundations of your throne” (Ps 89:14).
