“How I wish that men would listen to my Son and thus glorify the Father who is in heaven!” (Interior word)
We are in this world to serve our Father and glorify Him by following His Son. For this deeper meaning of human existence to become a reality, the Gospel must be proclaimed with authority. Indeed, how could people come to know their Father in heaven during their earthly life if not through the one who is “the way, and the truth, and the life” (Jn 14:6)?
How greatly our Father desires that men listen to His Son (cf. Mt 17:5)! What has He not done, and what does He continue to do, so that men may attain salvation? All of heaven longs for humanity to praise its heavenly Father—now, in time, and for all eternity.
How much the blessed Mother of God desires that men listen to her Son—she who said at Cana, “Do whatever he tells you” (Jn 2:5)! How painful it must be for her, who stood at the foot of the Cross and gave her “yes” to the Father’s will in that dark hour, that men pass by the sacrifice of her Son, who desires to draw all to Himself (cf. Jn 12:32)!
Someone so deeply involved in the plan of salvation as the Virgin Mary cannot but support all those who proclaim her Son and bear witness to Him with their whole lives. Without doubt, with the fullness of grace with which God has endowed her, she will assist those who fervently seek the glory of the Lord.
How greatly she must suffer, however, if the zeal to lead all people to her Son declines or even dies out in the Church! May that never happen, and may our Mother help us to pray for faithful and ardent workers for the Lord’s harvest (cf. Mt 9:37–38)!
