FRIEND OF LIFE

“Thou sparest all things, for they are thine, O Lord who lovest the living” (Wisdom 11:26).

If we consider all the atrocities that human beings commit on Earth, how many times could our Father have destroyed it! Both in the past and in the present…

Shouldn’t His patience with us have run out long ago, seeing that even after the coming of His Son into the world and the giving of His own life for the salvation of humanity, so much evil continues to occur? At times, it may be incomprehensible to us that God has not yet destroyed the world. We can only understand this more deeply when we know our Heavenly Father as He truly is and, therefore, when we encounter His infinite love.

The Book of Wisdom states in a verse prior to the one we heard at the beginning: “Thou lovest all things that exist, and hast loathing for none of the things which thou hast made, for thou wouldst not have made anything if thou hadst hated it” (11:24). And in another verse, it shows us in a special way the goodness of the Father: “Thou art merciful to all, for thou canst do all things, and thou dost overlook men’s sins, that they may repent” (v. 23).

Here we encounter divine love—our Heavenly Father, who desires nothing more than to see His creatures, whom He has raised to the dignity of His children, living according to His precepts, so that, as children of His love, they may reflect His glory.

God does everything possible to lead each person to true happiness. His love is inexhaustible! By sending His Son into the world, the Father shows us how far He is willing to suffer for humanity and forgive all transgressions, if only we accept His offer of love. Our Father is the very source of indulgence, compassion, and patience.

This is our consolation, because this is who our Father is.
