FORGIVENESS OF SINS

“I tell you that there is no sinner so wicked that, if he truly repents, I will not forgive him all his sins at that very moment and incline my heart toward him with such grace and gentleness as if he had never failed.” (St. Matilda of Hackeborn)

We can never immerse ourselves enough in God’s love or properly praise His mercy. It shines most brightly when we realize the seriousness of sin, which separates us from God if we persist in it. However, if we repent, we experience the Lord’s grace and love, as He Himself assured St. Matilda.

May sin never dominate us again! We bring this desire to the Throne of Mercy. Even if we realize that, deep down, we still do not hate sin enough, we can make an act of will and ask the Lord to grant us sincere repentance. Without a doubt, our Father will respond promptly to such a request.

Once we take a sincere step toward Him, God’s love cannot be stopped. Let us remember the Father’s promise in the message addressed to Mother Eugenia: if we invoke Him just once with the name “Father,” we will be saved. Let us also remember Our Lord, who on the cross forgave the thief who turned to Him in repentance (Lk 23:40–43).

With this certainty, we can confidently walk the path of following Christ. The following words of Blessed Zdenka Schelingová will mark our relationship with our heavenly Father if we take them to heart:

“My path is love and trust in God. God knows my weakness, so why should I fear? The memory of my sins humbles me, but it also speaks to me of love and mercy. My sins are instantly erased when I cast them into the fire of love.”

This is our Father!
