“FAITHFULNESS AND INNER LIFE”

“Hold fast to me and enter into the depths of your being” (Inner Word).

If we want to follow the Lord, it is essential that we cultivate our inner life. Otherwise, we run the risk of remaining in an outward Christianity that does not reflect the beauty of the faith nor possess the strength of conviction necessary to help our Heavenly Father invite men to His Kingdom, to the wedding feast of the Lamb.

Today’s phrase has two important aspects:

On the one hand, it exhorts us to hold fast to our holy faith, for it is God himself who has entrusted it to us. Anyone who deviates from it, relativises it or reinterprets it, whoever they may be, does not deserve our attention. We must hold fast to the Word of God and therefore to God himself. If the witness of the Church is obscured and confusion spreads, traditional faith and the morality that derives from it offer us a sure support.

At the same time, today’s passage invites us to perceive God’s presence within us and to live from it, both to deepen our faith and to be protected from the poison of the dragon and the serpent (cf. Rev 12:13-18). Our Father dwells in the soul that is in a state of grace. Therefore, if our life is in order before the Lord, we can always seek Him and find Him in our soul. This is what today’s words refer to, for there, within ourselves, we can remain in contact with our Father in all circumstances. Our soul is at home when it cultivates this intimate dialogue and communion of love with God. If it allows itself to be moulded by the Holy Spirit and cooperates with Him, it will seek more and more the interior life and will turn away from the unnecessary distractions of the world and, even more, from any false doctrine, which will even cause it pain.
