FAITHFULNESS AND ATTENTION

“Be faithful and attentive to Me, even in the smallest things. That will increase your strength” (Inner Word).

Today’s phrase invites us into deeper discipleship, in which the Father teaches us to walk in His ways with utmost attention. Although we constantly struggle against negligence and laziness, our self-discipline calls us not to be carried away by carelessness. We know from experience that when we are inattentive to earthly matters, they easily slip through our fingers—and the more this happens, the more we allow them to dominate us.

This is even more true in the spiritual realm, where negligence can quickly turn into bad habits and open the door to venial sin.

Our Father offers us the antidote: being faithful to Him in the smallest things, and doing and perceiving them with attention and diligence. This does not mean being scrupulous, constantly fearing we might do something wrong, or living under unhealthy “performance pressure” before the Heavenly Father. Rather, it is an act of love to fulfill the task entrusted to us with precision and to the best of our ability. If we do so, not only will we fulfill our obligation of love, but we will also be strengthened in our journey of discipleship, as today’s phrase suggests. Thus, our “inner castle” will be reinforced, and we will leave no door open for other spirits to slip in and disturb us.

If we invoke the Holy Spirit, He will help us perceive God’s ways more finely, respond better to His love, and cultivate this holy relationship more fully.
