DO NOT STAGNATE

“I think it is impossible for love to be content to tread water” (St. Teresa of Avila).

Love cannot be content to remain in the same place because it is infinite. “God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him” (1 Jn 4:16).

Let us think of our heavenly Father: Is it not a great joy for Him to bestow gifts on us in all kinds of ways? Is not the greatest gift waiting for us in eternity, when we will be with Him forever? “Now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face” (1 Cor 13:12).

“Love never ends” (v. 8a). Undoubtedly, this phrase is eminently true of our Father. But since this love has been poured into our hearts (Rom 5:5) and transforms us inwardly, our love will not want to stagnate or risk growing cold. Since it has become the defining axis of our lives, love will not rest until it has seized every opportunity to love as much as possible for us human beings. And that can go as far as giving our own lives.

If our capacity to love is centred first and foremost in our Heavenly Father, it is constantly renewed at the source of love. That is why it is important that we, while leading an active life in works of charity, return again and again to drink from the divine fountain and perform all our acts of love with our eyes fixed on God, so that we may consciously glorify Him. It was our Father who awakened love in us, and it will not cease to grow if we follow His impulses.
