227th Meditation
“Seek always the light, so as to unite with it and help drive away the darkness” (Inner Word).
Light drives away darkness. If we accept the invitation to always seek the light, the darkness will begin to give way within us, for the Holy Spirit Himself is the “light of the hearts” (Pentecost Sequence).
He, who is the love between the Father and the Son, will always try to penetrate to the very depths of our darkness, if we allow Him to do so.
We know that we can only enter eternal life with God when we are fully purified. No shadow has any place in heaven, and what a grace if our purification already takes place to a large extent here on earth!
It is therefore very good if we already now, on our way to eternity, let God’s light shine ever more brightly in us and walk in His ways. We can ally ourselves with the Holy Spirit in this process of inner transformation, in which His light breaks through our darkness, either by willingly cooperating with Him or by letting Him act.
But this must not only be a reality within the soul; but a person permeated by God’s light will also help to drive away the darkness around him or her and in the world.
Everyone who is drawn by our Heavenly Father and seeks Him, will let His light in. He has only to lift up his eyes to God. For those who do not yet know Him, this means experiencing a true encounter with Him. For those who already follow the Lord, it means letting themselves be more and more illuminated by His light.
It means constantly seeking God in order to be united with Him. Then every situation in life will be permeated by His light, and this is particularly important in the “dark hours of life”. We must raise our eyes to our Father, who looks at us with love and wants to touch with His light the concrete situation in which we find ourselves.
