“He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name” (Lk 1:49).
We all know these words of the Magnificat, which Mary exclaimed, burning with love. They are words that will last for eternity!
Our Lady’s whole life bears witness to her election by our Heavenly Father. In eternity we will be able to penetrate even more deeply into the mystery of her choice and her “yes” to God’s will. This will be a source of unceasing joy for us!
“He who is mighty has done great things for me”.
Each one of us can make these words of Our Lady our own, for has not our Father also done great things for us?
Has He not called us to life, created us in His image and likeness? Has He not redeemed us through Jesus Christ and “transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son” (Col 1:13)? Has He not made us children of His grace? Does He not feed us daily with the “bread of angels”? Has He not placed us in the Church to offer us a sure path to eternity? Does He not call us to cooperate in the work of salvation?
“He who is mighty has done great things for me” and continues to do so day after day, so that we can join in the jubilant song of our beloved Mother.
Her election becomes a living example for us. When the Angel of the Lord comes to us and calls us to follow her Son, to live our vocation and to glorify the One whose name is holy, he must meet us like the Blessed Virgin and also hear from our lips those words that the Father loves so much:
“Be it done unto me according to Thy word” (Lk 1:38b).
