TO SUFFER WITH DIGNITY AND SERENITY

382nd Meditation

“Endure suffering with dignity and serenity. Thus it will become a great treasure which will serve to save mankind” (Inner Word).

Our Father is able to make all circumstances fruitful, making us participants and co-operators in His great work of love. Suffering was certainly not part of God’s original plan for man, so why would our Father create us and then make us suffer? We know that suffering came into the world as a consequence of man’s sin. But now it becomes a good occasion for us to show the Father our love. Read More

LIGHT DRIVES AWAY DARKNESS

381st Meditation

“Light drives away all darkness, so much so that even the slightest false thought hurts you” (Inner Word).

Light is incompatible with darkness and drives it away. When our Father makes His dwelling place in our heart, everything that should not be there has to give way. Jesus points out that all evil thoughts come from the heart of a person (Mt 15:19). Read More

One word from you will suffice

Mt 8:5-17

When he went into Capernaum a centurion came up and pleaded with him. ‘Sir,’ he said, ‘my servant is lying at home paralysed and in great pain. ‘Jesus said to him, ‘I will come myself and cure him. ‘The centurion replied, ‘Sir, I am not worthy to have you under my roof; just give the word and my servant will be cured.

Mt 8:1-4

After Jesus had come down from the mountain large crowds followed him. Suddenly a man with a virulent skin-disease came up and bowed low in front of him, saying, ‘Lord, if you are willing, you can cleanse me.’ Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him saying, ‘I am willing. Be cleansed.’ And his skin-disease was cleansed at once. Then Jesus said to him, ‘Mind you tell no one, but go and show yourself to the priest and make the offering prescribed by Moses, as evidence to them.’  Read More

Completing the Race

2 Tim 4:6-8.17-18

‘As for me, my life is already being poured away as a libation, and the time has come for me to depart. I have fought the good fight to the end; I have run the race to the finish; I have kept the faith; all there is to come for me now is the crown of uprightness which the Lord, the upright judge, will give to me on that Day; and not only to me but to all those who have longed for his appearing. But the Lord stood by me and gave me power, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed for all the gentiles to hear; and so I was saved from the lion’s mouth. The Lord will rescue me from all evil attempts on me, and bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory for ever and ever. Amen.’

False prophets

Mt 7:15-20

‘Beware of false prophets who come to you disguised as sheep but underneath are ravenous wolves. You will be able to tell them by their fruits. Can people pick grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles? In the same way, a sound tree produces good fruit but a rotten tree bad fruit. A sound tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor a rotten tree bear good fruit.
