“Love for worldly things, for honors, greatness, and recognition has become second nature to man. It is like mixing water with wine; only a great miracle could separate them again” (St. Joseph of Cupertino).

FAITH AND INTERIOR LIFE
“Wield the shield of faith and lovingly embrace the beautiful and resplendent righteousness of God in your heart” (St. Hildegard of Bingen).
Communion in the truth
1 Jn 1:5–7
“This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him while we are walking in darkness, we lie and do not do what is true; but if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.”
BE GENEROUS!
“What great benefits you receive from God when you are generous! You give a coin and receive a kingdom; you give wheat bread and receive the Bread of Life; you give something temporary and receive something eternal. Everything you give will be returned to you a hundredfold.” (St. Thomas of Villanova)
Life has been manifested
NOTE: I would like to devote the daily meditations of the next few weeks to systematically working through a biblical book again. On this occasion, I have chosen the Letters of St John. However, those who prefer – or would additionally like – to listen to a meditation that corresponds to the biblical readings of the day, can find the respective links at the end of the text.
1 Jn 1,1-4
“We declare to you what was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the word of life. This life was revealed, and we have seen it and testify to it, and declare to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us. We declare to you what we have seen and heard so that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. We are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.”
Sagacity of the children of light
Lk 16:1-13
He also said to his disciples, ‘There was a rich man and he had a steward who was denounced to him for being wasteful with his property. He called for the man and said, “What is this I hear about you? Draw me up an account of your stewardship because you are not to be my steward any longer.” Then the steward said to himself, “Now that my master is taking the stewardship from me, what am I to do? Dig? I am not strong enough. Go begging? I should be too ashamed. Ah, I know what I will do to make sure that when I am dismissed from office there will be some to welcome me into their homes.” ‘Then he called his master’s debtors one by one.
THE TRIUMPH OF GOD’S JUSTICE
‘Do not allow the sad spectacle of human injustice to disturb your soul. It too has its place in the plan of salvation. Above human injustice, you will one day see the triumph of God’s justice’ (Padre Pio of Pietrelcina).
Fulfilling the entrusted mission
1 Tim 6:13-16
“Now, before God, the source of all life, and before Jesus Christ, who witnessed to his noble profession of faith before Pontius Pilate, I charge you to do all that you have been told, with no faults or failures, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, who at the due time will be revealed by God, the blessed and only Ruler of all, the King of kings and the Lord of lords, who alone is immortal, whose home is in inaccessible light, whom no human being has seen or is able to see: to him be honour and everlasting power. Amen. Read More
THE MANY WAYS OF GOD
“Placidus, why do you persecute Me? Believe in Me, that I am Christ, and I have been looking for you for a long time. Since you give alms and practice mercy, I too will be merciful to you.” (Jesus’ words to St. Eustace)
The good fight of faith
1 Tim 6:3-12
If any one teaches otherwise and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching which accords with godliness, he is puffed up with conceit, he knows nothing; he has a morbid craving for controversy and for disputes about words, which produce envy, dissension, slander, base suspicions, and wrangling among men who are depraved in mind and bereft of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of gain. There is great gain in godliness with contentment; for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world; but if we have food and clothing, with these we shall be content.
