“Most people have no idea what God could do with them if only they would place themselves at His disposal” (St Ignatius of Loyola).
Are we ready to embark on the adventure of God’s love, to accept His invitation to become who we really are? Are we ready to embark on the great expedition to discover what our loving Father has in store for us and for our lives?
This is indeed a spiritual challenge, because very often we have our own ideas about who we are, or we let ourselves be carried away by the image others have of us, which is often quite limited and sometimes marked by exaggerated illusions and false expectations.
But things change when we concretely submit ourselves to God’s guidance, when He becomes our Master and we are the clay in His hands, as the Scriptures so beautifully express (Is 64:7). No one knows us better! And God will gently but firmly mould His children to reflect His divine face in their lives. What more could the Heavenly Father want?
In reality, it is not difficult to serve Him in everything, but it is consistent. It will be a path of ever more subtle formation. We need only begin by asking our Father to make us what He wants us to be.
Undoubtedly, such a request will be very pleasing to God, because then we will have set out on a path to glorify Him. On this journey it is important not to stop or look back. The Holy Spirit will exhort us to go forward, step by step, even if they are often very small and modest steps. But behold, the Father has arranged all this for us, and it is far more beautiful than we could have imagined in our most exotic fantasies.
