333rd Meditation
“If you know me, you will know my Father too. Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father” (Jn 14:7,9).
These words of our Lord lead us to the knowledge of the Father. Our Saviour wants to make the Father known to us, and we understand that He does the works of His Father so that the Father may be glorified and we may know Him as He truly is (Jn 10:37-38).
Thus, the way to the Father is already marked out for us: It is Jesus Himself (Jn 14:6).
When we welcome the Word of our Lord and ponder it in our hearts as Mary did (Lk 2:19), we meet the Father, whose words the Son pronounces (Jn 12:49).
When we contemplate the Passion of our Lord, we meet the One who sent Him.
When we receive the holy sacraments, the Bread of the angels, the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, we meet the Father, who sends us the manna from heaven.
When we see Jesus with the eyes of our spirit, we see the Father.
When our heart is lifted up to Jesus, we lift it up to the Father.
When we lean spiritually on the Lord’s breast (cf. Jn 13:23), we take refuge in our Father.
When we profess our love to the Lord, we declare it to the Father.
When we remain faithful to Jesus until death, we are faithful to our heavenly Father.
When we confess Jesus before men, we also confess our Father; and Jesus Himself will confess us before His Father in heaven (Mt 10:32).
Everything proceeds from our Father and leads to Him, and our Lord is the way that leads us to Him!
