“Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness (…)”.God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good” (Gen 1:26,31).
This is how the Lord made us! We were created in His image and likeness, no more and no less. The interiorisation of this sentence from Genesis could be enough to dispel all the fog within us: all the fog that tries to obscure the unfathomable truth and love that are at the origin of our existence, all the fog that doesn’t want to let the true value of man shine through and that, in these times, even confuses him in his very identity as a creature. What darkness!
But God has done everything good. He made no mistake in creating man. It is even written about the creation of man that “God saw that he was very good”. Man is the masterpiece of His love – that is the truth!
But we know that man did not remain in his splendour. He was tempted and transgressed God’s wise commandment. As a result, he had to live outside Paradise, with all the consequences that we have to bear to this day.
And our Father, suffering from the rejection of His love and seeing that the glory He had bestowed on man was in danger of being lost, sought to restore him to his true dignity as a child of God.
Our Father uses every means so that we, created in His image, may become what we really are and what He has called us to be: true children of His and co-heirs of the Kingdom of Christ.
Our Father will look upon His creation redeemed and say: “It is very good”.
