“I live in an even deeper intimacy with men than a mother does with her children” (Message of God the Father to Sister Eugenia Ravasio).
For most people, the inner connection between a mother and her children is the ultimate example of tender, self-sacrificing love in human life. If this intimate relationship is undisturbed and breathes the spirit of freedom, it is a gift in which all can delight.
Our Heavenly Father uses this example to show us the extent of His union with us. It is striking that the Father affirms that this union is “even deeper than that of a mother with her children”. He then goes on to explain what this intimacy consists of: “Since the creation of man, I have never ceased to be close to him for a single moment.”
He then goes on to explain what all this means, and it becomes clear that our Father’s love is unsurpassed and that His concern for us is so delicate that even a mother’s precious love and intimate connection with her child is only a first and exquisite foretaste of the profound relationship our Father cultivates with every person.
Why does our Father tell us all this? We might even ask: why does He have to tell us?
He does so out of love, because we do not yet know that love well enough. We often have the wrong idea about Him and do not trust Him as we should. However, the Father’s desire is that there should arise “a great trust between man and his Father in heaven, a true spirit of familiarity and gentleness at the same time.”
The example of the inner connection between a mother and her child can help us to recognize that, if tender maternal love already makes the child so happy, how much more the love of our heavenly Father, who calls all men to live in union with Him as His beloved children! Surely this is the inexhaustible source of our happiness?
