325th Meditation
“If you knew this Father (…), would not then this love which you would offer me become, under My impulse, an active love?” (Message of the Father to Sister Eugenia Ravasio).
As we get to know our Father more deeply, the love that dwells in His paternal Heart awakens in us. If we love Him, we will at the same time love people and seek their salvation.
This love springs from God Himself and is renewed again and again in the encounter with Him through His Word and the holy sacraments, and becomes an active love. In this context, the Father refers to “His impulse”, so that this love does not run out and end up wearing out the strength of our soul; but that, in all the works we do, we are strengthened and sustained by it.
Although we, as individuals, may grow weary, the grace of the Lord always lifts us up again so that we can continue to put active love into practice, knowing that we are sustained by our Father.
Indeed, there is so much work to be done in the Kingdom of God and we need courage to face the challenges that come our way. And it is precisely then that divine love will keep us from falling into unhealthy activism. It will remind us to return again and again to the sources from which God’s love strengthens us and enables us to do the works in the Spirit of the Lord.
Let us think of our Saviour… The Gospel tells us that Jesus rose early in the morning and withdrew alone to a mountain to pray (Mk 1:35), and then showed His love to people also through active works.
Here we are shown the path to take so that the works of mercy will bear abundant fruit. Together with the love of God, they will give glory to our Father, serve mankind and store up treasures for us in heaven (cf. Mt 6:20).
