“Every day spent in your rhythm of life is extremely valuable” (Inner Word).
We know that our Father has given us His holy commandments, which form our order of life for remaining in His grace and attaining union with Him in eternity—provided we strive to fulfill them willingly. Conversely, we also know that if we do not observe them, our life falls into spiritual disorder, and we run the grave risk of missing the very meaning of our existence, not to mention the consequence of being separated from God forever.
Yet even when we live according to God’s commandments, it remains essential to have a spiritual rhythm of life and to follow it with perseverance. This is indispensable for ongoing spiritual growth. Such a rhythm is like the secure framework our Father grants us so that our lives may bear fruit. At the same time, it offers the necessary protection to prevent our spiritual life from declining—or, in the worst case, being extinguished altogether. It is also part of the spiritual armor we need to defend ourselves against temptations of every kind.
If we embrace it as a sacred duty, the Lord will sustain us in our rhythm of life. He will encourage us not to neglect it, but to observe it attentively. In this way, it will become our joy. This is how people live in monasteries. However, an orderly spiritual rhythm is not reserved solely for these particular vocations. Those who live in the world can also establish a binding order of life, though it must sometimes remain flexible depending on circumstances. Within this framework, the necessary grace to fulfill our mission as disciples of the Lord can unfold organically. This is why today’s phrase emphasizes the importance of each day passing according to this rhythm of life.
Let us receive it as an invitation from our Father to persevere in putting this vital aspect into practice.
