169th Meditation
“You delight in sincerity of heart,
and in secret you teach me wisdom” (Ps 51:6).
The sincere heart mentioned in the psalm is related to purity of heart, which can become very deep. The more we advance in the process of purification, the more we will perceive the movements of our heart, thanks to the light of the Holy Spirit. Everything, even the smallest things, will be opened before God, so that all inner blockage towards Him begins to dissolve.
All this happens in the interior of the heart, where our Father has made His abode and instructs us in what is hidden. His benevolent Spirit molds our soul, making it “conform” to our Heavenly Father, as the mystics describe. The wisdom that the Father instills in us, which we could describe as a “delightful knowledge,” transforms our whole being and can bring forth in us that gentleness which characterizes our Father Himself.
This happens in our innermost being, as a secret of love between God and us. Our Father delights in doing this work in intimacy, because in this way He can draw us to Himself.
The hustle and bustle of this world is unaware of this hidden treasure and many pass by, indifferent to its richness. Indeed, they are unaware of God’s longing to reveal to them too the “treasures of wisdom and knowledge” which He has manifested to all in the Person of His Son (cf. Col 2:3).
The Season of Advent is an invitation to let our heart be purified by the love of God, so that it becomes a “sincere heart” and its innermost intentions are totally focused on God. Thus, it will be a joy for our Father to instill His wisdom in our heart.
Then we will be able to adore Wisdom incarnate in the Manger of Bethlehem and sing, “My heart I want to offer you and all that I have, I give to you.”
