A LITTLE PRAYER

“Trusted Father and Friend, I love you!”

This little prayer is a synthesis of our Heavenly Father’s desires for the relationship He wants to have with us. If we repeat it as a kind of ‘heart prayer’, these invocations will be engraved in our hearts. The very act of calling God “our Father” already establishes a great closeness with Him, which is deepened even more when we call Him “Trusted Father”.

This intimacy, to which our Father refers in the message to Mother Eugenia Ravasio and which He desires as an expression of the tenderness of His relationship with His children, fills our relationship with God with love and also with a spiritual and natural warmth.

With this trusted Father, it is possible to speak of things that are reserved for this kind of relationship. At the same time, we are in good hands with God, even with all the limitations of our creatureliness. It is precisely in this relationship of love that the imperfection of our walk and of our person does not become a reason for constant self-accusation that leads nowhere. On the contrary, it becomes an incentive to thank our Heavenly Father more and more for His love and patience, and to do everything in our power to walk the path of perfection with fervour and trust in Him.

Let us now add the dimension of friendship with God. In this, God offers us a kind of love which, in a certain sense, puts Him on an equal footing with us. The title “friend” rounds off this little prayer. In the message to Sister Eugenie, our Father describes how He comes down to our human level to make Himself known to us. When we look at the Incarnation of the Son of God, this becomes a tangible reality.

In this way, this little prayer can help us to express our love for the Father with increasing ease and to translate it into works that are pleasing to Him.
