‘Never let yourself be confused and keep your heart anchored in me’ (inner word).
Often the attacks of the evil one want to lead us away from the right path. But as we know, God uses all his machinations to anchor us even more deeply in Himself.
One of the tactics of the powers of darkness is confusion. This happens when we do not hold fast enough to straight and clear reasoning, but allow ourselves to be influenced by certain inner thoughts, feelings or by what we see and hear. Then it is as if we are being bombarded with different information at the same time, and our emotions are being invaded. In such circumstances it is important to sort things according to a hierarchy of values, to focus on what is most important and leave behind what is less important and unnecessary.
Confusion often affects not only the mind but also the heart. Therefore, the advice to anchor the heart in our Father and to turn to Him even when we are beset by confusion, and to present the disturbing and often intrusive feelings to Him, is very valuable. This also applies to feelings of disordered sadness, melancholic moods, and fears that want to darken and confuse our soul.
A valuable help at such times is the prayer of the heart, which accustoms the soul to a state of inner peace and recollection in God. It then notices much more quickly when this state of inner serenity is under attack, and can also return more quickly to prayer in order to regain its peace.
Therefore, let us not allow confusion to spread in our thoughts or feelings, but let us counteract it with the right means. Then we will be able to continue on our path with the clarity of the Holy Spirit and the confusion will disappear.
