THIS IS HOW OUR FATHER HAS ARRANGED IT

377th Meditation

“I bless you, Father, Lord of heaven and of earth, for hiding these things from the learned and the clever and revealing them to little children. Yes, Father, for that is what it pleased you to do” (Mt 11:25-26).

This is how our Father has arranged it in His wisdom.

Faith is not acquired primarily by the efforts of our understanding; it is a gift of God which we receive and which must increase and bear fruit. That is why even the simplest souls – and sometimes precisely they – are able to assimilate deeply the truths of our faith and to live by them. When we meet such people, we can be amazed at how naturally they bear witness to their faith and how it has become the criterion for their actions. Their way of living their faith can be as natural as that of a child.

This is how our Father has arranged it in His wisdom.

Faith is accessible to all people. The simple fishermen of Galilee heard the call and followed the Son of God, while the wise and learned of the people found it difficult. In the Roman Empire, the faith began to spread especially among the slaves, and gradually reached the other social classes. The proud did not embrace it. Indeed, to embrace faith is an act of humility, because we recognise that it is God who redeems us and not ourselves; that our Father is the goal, and not ourselves; that He and His Kingdom are to be proclaimed, and not ourselves.

This is how our Father has arranged it in His wisdom.

Let us praise God our Father and rejoice with Jesus, for it will remain so until the end of time. And if we already recognise our Father’s wisdom in it now, how much more so when – in eternal life – we see even more clearly that He has arranged everything for the good of mankind!
