OPENNESS TO CHRIST

201st Meditation

“Today I wish to say that openness to Christ, who as the Redeemer of the world fully reveals man himself, can only be achieved through an ever more mature reference to the Father and His love” (John Paul II, Encyclical “Dives in Misericordia”).

The more we know the Father and learn to understand His love, the more we see the Son with the eyes of the Father, the deeper our relationship with Jesus will become. Thus, from the perspective of the love of His Heavenly Father, we discover our Savior. There can be no deeper encounter with Him!

We are called to be inserted by God into the overwhelming mystery of the love of the Blessed Trinity. In the Gospel of St. John, Jesus addresses the Father saying:

“I have made your name known to them and will continue to make it known, so that the love with which you loved me may be in them, and so that I may be in them” (Jn 17:26).

Jesus wants to reveal the love of the Father to men and calls them to live in Him. It is this love that moves Him to do everything for the glorification of God and the salvation of mankind. If we encounter the love of the Father more deeply, the mystery of this love is revealed to us even more and our relationship with Him acquires a special radiance.

Starting from this relationship, which, according to the words of John Paul II, must be ever more mature, we become open to Christ as the Redeemer of the world. We then understand everything He says and does as an expression of the infinite and unsurpassable love of God, who embraces everything and wants to redeem and sanctify everything.

We are left with nothing but wonder and gratitude for having been called to live as children of this love!
